UMD Students Pretend to be Dead in Protest
Students Protest Police Brutality and 'Institutionalized Racism'
Students at UMD pretended to be dead at a protest on campus.
The “die-in” is a symbolic protest to show support for victims of police brutality.
The students involved say that several controversial cases in recent memory show evidence of injustice, and what they call “institutionalized racism.”
The “die in” is a show of unity in the name of positive change.
“We’re using it as a solidarity movement to kind of show that we know what’s going on around the country, and UMD is not apart from that,” said Mikhaila Lampert, a spokesperson for the student group.
Those involved in the protest say they expected a mixed reaction from their fellow students.
