Proposal On Cirrus Deal Up For Consideration
Duluth City Council members proposed an amendment on Thursday to the agreement which would require Cirrus aircraft to submit labor disputes to binding arbitration.
Cirrus’ attorneys believe it isn’t appropriate for the city to impose on labor matters, but some city councilors disagree.
“Frankly right now, the federal system that protects peoples bargaining rights is broken. there are thousands of people fired illegally every year for exercising their guaranteed rights in the workplace,” said city councilor Joel Sipress.
The amendment was voted down Monday night with a 2-7 vote.
If the vote went the other way, it would have provided some guarantees for employees at Cirrus — as far as their collective bargaining rights.
