Researchers Observe Lakes To Study Climate Change

Lakes Across 6 Continents Observed

Climate change is warming lakes across the world, affecting freshwater ecosystems, according to a study spanning six continents.

Sixty scientists, including University of Minnesota Faculty, took part in the research that showed that temperatures rising in lakes is a global trend and not just a local one.

“The purpose of this study was to get all the data in one place to study lakes not in some sort of anecdotal sense where we’re studying one lake at a time, but to use lakes as a case study to understand climate change,” said Jay Austin, a professor at UMD.

235 lakes in total were observed for the study.
