Cold Conditions And Your Heart Health

St. Luke’s Cardiology Department wants to remind Northlanders not to miss a beat by encouraging awareness of heart health, especially because winter heightens risks for heart attacks.

St. Luke’s Cardiologist Dr. Marwan Dib said,”The blood pressure will increase and the heart rate will increase in order to keep the body warm and this by itself puts more pressure on the heart, so the heart will start working harder.”

Taking additional safety measures could save your life. Wearing extra layers is key, and don’t go from zero to 100 with outdoor exercise.

Dib said,”Symptoms can be like chest pain, chest pressure, chest tightness, shortness of breath any chest or sweating”

If you find yourself experiencing any of these symptoms, health professional recommend calling 911 immediately.
