Ground Hog Day at the Lake Superior Zoo

Fill in Animal Checks for Spring

It’s Ground Hog Day, and we have news from the Lake Superior Zoo that Spring is around the corner.

Spike, the 7 year old North American Porcupine and groundhog stand in, emerged from his burrow to see if he could see his shadow. No groundhogs live at the lake superior zoo, so Spike has been taking on this responsibility for years.

“He did not see his shadow, he is out and about, he’s hanging out at the zoo here, and he’s ready for an early spring,” said Lizzy Larson, a Zoo Keeper.

The zoo keepers say they’re not sure about the accuracy of Spike’s forecast, but that they believe in him.
