Ashland Salon Launches ‘Love Yourself Sundays’
It’s called “Love Yourself Sundays.”
“Bullying in Ashland is getting out of hand, so we decided, you know, our job is to make people feel and look their best so why don’t we do something,” said Karma Salon owner, Shelly Johanik.
The first Sunday of every month, Karma Salon is pampering students in Ashland and the surrounding area who may be struggling with self-esteem issues.
“We’re having them come in, get their hair, makeup and nails done,” said Johanik.
The services are free of charge, with a goal of cutting out bullying and empowering the youth.
“We tried to get it so they feel good about themselves so they stand up for themselves,” said Johanik.
For one Ashland sixth grader, it was a day to brush off her insecurities.
“I don’t feel as pretty as the other girls.. as athletic, that kind of stuff,” said Sarah Ellet- Cardinal.
And to look in the mirror and like what she sees.
“It makes me feel really good about myself, like I said, and I really need that boost of confidence,” said Sarah.
A program helping kids feel beautiful inside and out.
In addition to a day at the salon, kids were also treated to a new outfit at Maurice’s to complete the look.
