95,000 Minnesota Students to Receive Grant Increases
College students in Minnesota who receive state grants will receive an additional $200 dollars this year to help pay for school.
Lieutenant Governor Tina Smith and Higher Education Commissioner Larry Pogemiller made the announcement Tuesday.
The program will help 95,000 Minnesota students receive hundreds of dollars more in direct financial aid for the upcoming school year.
This year’s surplus in the State Grant Program spending balance is largely due to lower than expected enrollment numbers at state universities and public colleges, along with increases in the federal Pell Grant program.
Minnesota students who are eligible for the increases in funding do not need to do anything; the award increases will automatically rollover into their overall Grant awards for the upcoming school year.
