UMD Talks Budget Plans For 2016-2017 Academic Year
UMD has a current deficit of $4.3 million, but school leaders feel the university is making great strides since the school had a $12 million deficit as recent as 2014.
The school continues to move forward and the big goal is to make sure all the voices and opinions are fairly represented.
“We had faculty and staff meetings at the beginning of the semester. And we also met with the student Congress to talk about some ideas,” UMD Chancellor Lendley Black said.
Chancellor Black has created a six-step plan to continue the financial momentum to reduce the university’s debt, including reassessing UMD’s five-college structure and decided if it should be cut down to a three-college model.
The university will be receiving an additional $1 million from the University of Minnesota System over the course of the next two academic years.
