St. Louis County Weighs In On Fate Of Old Kozy Building

City of Duluth, Kozy Representative, and St. Louis County Meet Together

The old Kozy building is considered ta forfeited land and it’s in the control of St. Louis County.

At the committee of the whole meeting, county commissioners brought up a resolution that would allow the city of Duluth and the county, a one year time frame to come up with a potential solution for the blight property.

It would also block building owner Eric Ringsred from buying the property back over that year.

Both sides made their voices heard.

“We’ve applied to Minnesota housing. This is our application,” said Mike Conlan, as he put down a large stack of papers.  “Very detailed application which the city well knows, received one of the highest scores in the state,” said Conlan.

“By taking that step should this prevail and i think it will, we’re putting another tool in the bag for redevelopment for tax forfeited properties throughout the St. Louis county,”said Steve Raucker a St. Louis County Commissioner.

The resolution will be voted on at the next county board meeting in Babbit.
