Duluth Announces Major Construction Plans For Roads
Double The Funds To Be Allocated To Projects
Duluth Mayor Emily Larson unveiled some major plans for the maintenance of streets in Duluth.
Larson announced plans to double the street projects for the 2016 construction season
Larson is asking the City Council to support an increased investment of $800,000 dollars in streets this summer, which is a 50 percent increase in the amount that is currently allocated to the same cause.
This increase would bump up the miles covered from around 5 to 6 miles, up to 11 to 12 miles.
The money will come from the anticipated budget surplus from 2015, from sales tax that was higher than expected, and unused contingency funds. It is a one-time allocation.
Duluth legislators will be heading down to the State Capitol in St. Paul to lobby for the state’s partnership in bonding projects like the Steam plant conversion, and street maintenance.
