Central High School has a new redevelopment incentive

Minnesota lawmakers have introduced a bill that would offer financial incentive to developers interested in the Old Central High School property.

The bill would exempt the 77–acre central Duluth site from state sales tax, as long as the development is subject to property tax.

They hope this will help to sell the school once and for all.

Alanna Oswald, School Board Member, said “Any incentive to get this property sold is a good thing. I firmly believe we need to sell this property for as much as we can.”

The building has been vacant since 2007.

Officials say they have spent millions just to keep the grounds of the school maintained.

This bill was just introduced and school board members hope to dicuss it further at their next meeting.
