Crews Tackle Downtown Graffiti, Kozy Building

Several Duluth city leaders spent the day teaming up with community volunteers for a big project to bust graffiti off parts of the city’s downtown area.

“I grew up on Lake Avenue for about 10-11 years of my life, but it’s been a few years since I’ve walked around here,” said Craig Olson, a volunteer painter.

Central Hillside residents started to notice a real spike in crime after the 2010 fire at the Kozy, and according to police, he tagging on the building is not gang related — but specific to local vandals.

Duluth Police and Fire Departments, Painters Union Local 106, and the Greater Downtown Council’s Clean and Safe Team, were all part of the clean-up effort Thursday.
