UMD Hosts Camp “Kidsrock”

Gradeschoolers Gather at UMD to Explore, Create, and Become Active

Camps across the Northland are now in full swing, keeping kids active and adventurous throughout the summer months.

UMD’s Camp “KIDSROCK” is taking over the campus with kids ages six to 12 years old.

The fun-flled summer program offers kids a variety of activities to work out their mind, body and spirit.

Each week, a new schedule of activities and themes are introduced by a variety of seven camp counselors.

Activities such as indoor rock climbing, bowling, canoeing, and arts and crafts not only keep smiles on the kids’ faces, but the camp counselors as well.

Kern Wilson, UMD camp counselor said, “Just being able to meet new kids and interact with them, learn about them and that kind of stuff just makes me love my job!”

The kids get to take part in a new event each week. Coming up this Friday, a talent show will take place at UMD’s Weber Hall on the big stage.

“When you know a kid personally and how they act, you’re able to help them in certain ways that will help them achieve their goals in school,” Wilson said.
