WisDOT Continues to Make Repairs on Roadways

July 11 flood clean up still continues a month later

Businesses and roadways are open in Ashland, Bayfield, and Iron Counties. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation continues to make repairs to highways that were damaged in the July 11th severe storms.

Roadways that unfortunately remain closed due to severe washouts and damage are detoured and signed with electronic message signs to ensure that you get on another path to your final destination.

Current closures and detours:

Ashland County

  • WIS 13 corridor is closed between Mellen and WIS 112.
    • A new detour for car traffic only is available on County C.
    • Truck traffic will still need to follow WIS 77, US 51, and US 2.

Bayfield County

  • US 63 is closed at Twentymile Creek near Grand View. Car traffic is detoured at Grand View via Raymond Road and North Sweden Road. Truck traffic is detoured via County N and County A.
    • Work to repair damages on US 63 continues to progress ahead of schedule. The project includes debris removal, culvert repair and pavement work. WisDOT anticipates this project will be complete and US 63 will be open to traffic the week of August 15.

Iron County

  • WIS 122 is open north of US 2 to the Michigan State line.
    • There is no access to Michigan or Saxon Harbor from WIS 122.
  • WIS 169 is closed between WIS 13 and US 2. Traffic is detoured via WIS 77, US 51, US 2.
    • Projects are expected to be completed by September 30.

Motorists are advised to use caution in these areas and adhere to signed closures. For up-to-date closures and detour information, visit www.511wi.gov
