Salvation Army Coach Headed to Rio
Salvation Army Program Allows Coach To Travel To Rio
A Duluth Salvation Army basketball coach is gearing up for the trip of a lifetime.
She’s headed out to Rio to build connections with the people there during the 2016 Olympics.
Kris Mallett will be part of a team of international volunteers serving the salvation army at one of 13 different community centers.
They’ll be using sports to build meaningful relationships within the community, and will serve dozens of kids under 18 that come into the Salvation Army Center each day.
“To know how to be a good sport and, to be a good community member on and off court, those are thing things we are looking to teach there,” said Mallett.
That coach also hopes to be able to raise some money for sports equipment, specifically new soccer balls and nets for that center.
Anyone interested in helping in this way is encouraged to stop by the Duluth Salvation Army with a donation, or to mail it to: The Salvation Army, 215 S. 27th Ave. West, Duluth, MN, 55806.
