New Sandy Hook Elementary Opens to the Public

Four years after the deadly massacre a new school opens

Four years after the deadly massacre in Newtown, Conneticut that took the lives of 20 people, a new Sandy Hook Elementary School opens.

On Friday, the public got a glimpse of the new school. The 86-thousand square foot building cost 50-million dollars and has a range of safety features. These features include impact resistant windows and state of the art video monitoring.

In addition, the ground floor was built slightly elevated, making it difficult for possible perpetrators to see inside classrooms.

The school sits on the same site as the old school, but was built further back on the property after the old building was demolished.

The school will officially open to students and staff on August 29th and will serve students in pre-kindergarten through fourth grade.
