Flash Flooding in West Central Wisconsin

Another round of heavy rainfall drowns Wisconsin

Heavy rains hit West Central Wisconsin this morning causing flash flooding. Several areas received 4-6″, causing flooding and damaging roads.

The Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs reports that the following are currently the hardest hit areas from Thursday morning’s storms:

Buffalo County – Buffalo County Emergency Management reports that the county has declared a state of emergency in response to the flooding. Numerous roads are closed, and county officials are recommending no travel until further notices. Law enforcement reported propane tanks floating down a creek in the Cream area. Buffalo County residents that may have sustained flood damage are encouraged to call 2-1-1 to report flooding.

Price County – Highway 86 is closed in the Town of Ogema. High water had been reported flowing over County Highway C.

Trempealeau County – Trempealeau County has declared a state of emergency due to flooding. In addition, the City of Independence is implementing a voluntary evacuation of businesses and residents on Osseo Road due to flooding. Several roads are washed out and closed. Areas of Highway 93 are closed due to flooding.

Eau Claire County – The Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Department is reporting road closures and that detours have been set up.

The National Weather Service issued a Flood Warning for norther Trempealeau and Buffalo Counties until 10:15 p.m. A Flash Flood Watch is also in effect in western and southwest Wisconsin through 7 a.m. as round two of storms could produce another 1-3″ of rainfall.

Damage assessments have begun, and The State Emergency Operations Center is elevated to Level 4 with Wisconsin Emergency Management working with state and county agencies.
