UMD Celebrates Day of the Dead

The Multicultural Center is open to the public for those interested.

Over at UMD they aren’t just celebrating Halloween, for the next week the Multicultural Center is open to the public for people to enjoy their “Dia de los Muertos” display. The display is teaching people about the Mexican day of celebration.

“People don’t really understand it but once you explain it to them it’s sometimes really cool to see their reactions, to see that this is more than just decorating to us, that this means something to us as a culture,” said UMD Student, Karen Valdez.

Elementary schools will be visiting throughout the week to learn about the holiday.

Two UMD classes collaborated to create the display which featured masks, food, flowers and more.
