St. Luke’s Second Annual Mental Health Conference

Second annual conference trains practitioners in mental health treatment

St. Luke’s held its second annual Mental Health Conference at the DECC today.

The conference was meant to bring forth a discussion on changing the fact that mental health care is provided by primary care providers without formal psychiatric training.

“Right now we don’t have enough psychiatrists, we don’t have enough mental health care providers. What we can do is share our knowledge and our expertise in order to help give these primary care physicians the tools that they need in order to effectively help these patients,” says Dr. David Baldes of St. Luke’s psychiatry.

The main goal of the conference was to provide education for non-psychiatrists. Various mental health care professionals spoke at the event.
