Adam Johnson’s Death: Neck Guard Sales Rise; NHL Tribute Video; Panthers Set Up GoFundMe

WARROAD, Minn. — Neck guards for hockey players are selling out in some Minnesota stores after the death of professional hockey player and Hibbing native Adam Johnson over the weekend.

Video of the game in Sheffield, England showed Johnson suffering a serious neck injury from a skate after colliding with another player.

After Johnson’s death, British hockey officials announced neck guards will be required starting next year.

In the U.S., neither the National Hockey League nor youth hockey require neck guards. But it appears demand for them is growing.

Warroad Hockey Company just started selling neck guards recently and said they sold out on Monday. Click the video above for more.

GoFundMe For Memorial Fund:

The Nottingham Panthers have created an official GoFundMe page to raise money for the “Love for Hibbing and Hockey Memorial Fund” established in Adam’s memory.

Donations will support local charitable activities in Adam’s hometown area of Hibbing.

Nearly $40,000 had been raised as of Tuesday night.
