Music Aims To Spark Memories For People With Dementia
SUPERIOR, Wis. — Music can spark memories from the past and help people reminisce, according to the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Douglas County.
That’s why they invited the band, Born Too Late to play at their Memory Cafe at the Superior Public Library Wednesday.
The center hosts the event the last Wednesday of every month for anybody experiencing memory changes, alongside their spouse, friends or family members. It offers them a chance to get together, do activities and meet other people who might be going through the same thing.
A dementia care specialist says it’s important to know there are other resources out there for people to use.
“Social isolation is so detrimental to our health, especially anybody experiencing any memory changes. It can really, somebody can decline really rapidly. So, it’s really important for others to know that there is a group, that we meet. And same with care givers and care partners and families that can come and meet with other people that kind of are going through the same thing and connect with people,” said Chelsea Thompson, dementia care specialist for the ADRC of Douglas County.
The ADRC of Douglas County hopes people going through memory loss know they are not alone. They offer plenty of resources and information on their website.
