New Equipment For New Spine Surgery Program At Cloquet Hospital
CLOQUET, Minn. — 2 doctors saw a need for spine care in the Northland and found a great opportunity to do so.
The neurosurgeons partnered with Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet to bring in state of the art equipment to create the new spine surgery program. They have practiced in Duluth for years and noticed with the aging community this care is much more needed.
Community members will not have to travel to the Twin Cities or farther anymore as it is the same level of equipment, skillsets, and high-quality care. The new equipment is essentially a GPS system for the spine.
“All of this instrumentation that we brought in behind us. We have a few different systems behind us, what we call is Neuro-navigation. So, a lot of our surgeries involve placing screws into the bones to help fixate the spine. This allows us to do it under real-time under CT guidance,” said Matthew Davies, neurosurgeon.
The new surgical equipment costs are north of a million dollars according to Dr. Davies.
