Duluth Police Remember K-9 Luna Three Years Since Being Shot, Killed

DULUTH, Minn. – Three years ago Sunday, Duluth Police K-9 Luna was killed while responding to a domestic disturbance call.

The suspect, 37-year-old David Conwell, was hiding in a bedroom closet.

K-9 Luna attempted to apprehend Conwell when he began shooting a shotgun at officers and fatally struck Luna.

St. Louis County deputies would later shoot and kill Conwell after he pointed a gun at them from the house’s porch.

The Duluth Police Department posted on social media today saying. “We will always remember K9 Luna for her ultimate sacrifice.”

FOX 21 aired a special report in May of 2019 that showed K-9 Luna and her handler, officer Aaron Haller, training in the Twin Cities after Haller’s first partner, K-9 Haas, was shot and killed in the line of duty in January of that year.  Click here to watch that report, The Next Chapter.
