Local Medical Supplies Store Celebrates Lymphedema Awareness Month
DULUTH, Minn. — A local medical supplies store is celebrating Lymphedema Awareness Month.
Lymphedema is a chronic swelling condition that can be caused by a genetic condition, trauma from surgery, or cancer treatment. In 2021, Congress passed the Lymphedema Treatment Act which requires Medicare and certain insurance providers to cover garments. Heide’s Mastectomy and Compression Services in Duluth is helping get the word out as some people now have coverage they may not know about.
The store hosted an open house on Wednesday to showcase all of their compression products and devices.
“So, we can make a compression garment for any part of the body head to toe. And we also have external compression devices so, it’s a pump that works in a specific motion to help reduce Edema. So, we work closely with Lymphedema therapists and other providers to help patients find what they need,” said Nicole Fraley, Lymphedema and Mastectomy Fitter.
Heide’s Mastectomy and Compression Services is the only provider of Lymphedema services north of the Twin Cities.
