New Addiction Recovery House Opens In Superior

SUPERIOR, Wis. — Life is full of ups and downs. And for some people, all they need is a push in the right direction. Especially while living in a comfortable, cozy, home-like environment. That is what Emily Mack is looking to achieve.

“Obviously, I see a lot of clients that are struggling with mental health and with substance use. Where they deserve a safe, stable place to be able to come and live. And there’s just nothing.” Emily said.

With these issues happening, Emily was driven to help change how addiction is treated.

“They want to be healthy; they want to be sober; they want to have good mental health. But then there’s no support to be able to do it. It’s just, I think it’s just a really unfair situation for people to be in.” Mack explained.

The Highlands Restoration and Wellness home will open its doors on June 10th. Women can stay at the house anywhere from three months to a year. The home is more than just a living space. It’s an opportunity for them to start fresh.

Mack said, “In the home, we offer mental health and substance use programming. But we are also able to offer access to things like hygiene items, household goods, bus passes. We do random drug and alcohol testing.”

The support doesn’t stop there. This experience is completely funded.

“And then when women enter the program, their rent, their utilities, internet, all of that is covered. So, it’s not just paying rent to be in a program like this. It’s, you’re getting all your needs met, while you’re in a program like this.” Mack said.

That’s not all. Right off the bat, the guests are welcomed with a hygiene basket, and a bed to sleep in. There is a sense of structure in the home. They have a rotating chore schedule, opportunities to attend recovery meetings, and employment. All to prepare them for a life after recovery.

“If they can come out just a happier, healthier person then when they came in, I would consider that a success.” Mack said.

The home has room for 16 clients. House managers will live there and support the guests. If you’re looking at helping a loved one recover. Or donating to their cause, there is more information on their website.
