Essentia Health Introduces New Surgical Robots
DULUTH, Minn. — Essentia Health held an event for the community to meet their new surgical robots.
Four different robots were on display. Each of them provides a minimally invasive surgery that reduces both the time under anesthesia and recovery time. Surgeons were on hand to ask questions. People could touch and play with the robots to learn how they operate.
“To have all of our robots here in one platform in one place for everyone to come look is really exciting for us. and there’s been a lot of excitement especially from our younger… the gamers, a lot of it, because its super engaging for them and to understand that you can actually do surgery like this,” said Stacy Lund, Senior Operations Director of Surgery and Anesthesia.
The goal of the event was for people to walk away with a better understanding of what these robots can do and how they benefit the area.
“The biggest benefit to our patients is that they come in and a surgery that might’ve kept them in the hospital three or four days now gets them home today. Very small incisions our docs are able to actually pinpoint, within millimeters, pinpoint what needs to be done. and the robot actually asks is their shoulder, their elbow, their wrist, that allows them to get into very small spaces without creating big incisions,” said Lund.
Lund also shared that having these robots available locally helps families heal in their home environment. Though the hands-on event was today only you can still learn more about what the robots can do for you by discussing it with your care team.
