Ovarian Cancer Survivors Go On a Shopping Spree at Maurices

DULUTH, Minn. — The Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance partnered with Duluth-based Maurices to bring ovarian cancer survivors on a shopping spree.

Maurices brought local ovarian cancer survivors on a special shopping trip at its downtown headquarters, giving the women and their families a chance to forget the mental and physical stressors of the disease.

The event allowed survivors to grab new clothes and accessories, all for free. Maurice’s personal stylists were even on hand to assist the shoppers.

“One of the things that we love about being in the women’s clothing business is it’s just fun to try on clothes, its fun, it’s a good boost of confidence,” said Laura Sieger, Maurices Chief Marketing Officer. “And I think for these women who have gone through so much, it’s just a way for us to celebrate them.”

The 30 survivors at the event also took part in a support group, allowing the women to talk about their experiences.

“There is nothing like gathering together with people who have been in your shoes, they understand each other,” Kristine Greer, MOCA Board Member and Ovarian Cancer Survivor. “When I go and talk to another ovarian cancer survivor, I know how she’s feeling, she knows how I’m feeling. There is nothing like that type of support.”

The Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance says around 20,000 women were diagnosed with ovarian cancer in U.S during 2023.

MOCA funds research, raises awareness about the disease and supports patients and survivors.
