Carlton County WIC Granted Award for Breastfeeding Support
CLOQUET, Minn.–The USDA recognized Carlton County Women, Infants and Children for their top-notch breastfeeding support.
The “Breastfeeding Award of Excellence” given to the small clinic is just one of three WIC agencies in the state to be honored.
They have virtual visits, and even help out patients during pregnancy to help prepare them in advance.
The team is dedicated to helping out patients who may experience a hard time getting into a clinic for breastfeeding help.
We’re seeing here in the northeast region that some healthcare is more challenging to access.” said Jenny Barta, WIC Coordinator for the Carlton County WIC Program. “Just because of geographical disparities that we might have, long distance. We typically in the winter have some very challenging weather that we need to deal with.”
In 2023 alone, thanks to the Peer Breastfeeding Support Program. 92.1 percent of women participating in Carlton County WIC initiated breastfeeding their infants at birth.
