DULUTH, Minn. — Pickleball players rallied for a cure on Friday. Games were held to raise funds for an important cause.

The Duluth Area Pickleball Association hosted glow-in-the-dark pickleball, raising money for breast cancer awareness.

The event was “open play” and different courts held games of all experience levels, from beginner to challenging.

Each participant donated money towards the National Breast Cancer Foundation and over $2,000 were raised as nearly 100 players took to the courts.

“I love pickleball for the fact that when I was going through my radiation treatment, this is where I would go right afterwards and it’s such a mental game for cancer patients, just because we need something to move forward with and keep our spirits up. And pickleball is just that wonderful activity for everybody,” said Sophie Lohn, organizer and breast cancer survivor.

Some of the participants were breast cancer survivors, and said early detection played a large role in their cancer journey, and they recommend getting regular mammograms and physicals.
