Aging and Disability Resource Center of Douglas County Hosts Free Memory Screens

SUPERIOR, Wis. — Residents of Douglas County were able to get a brain health checkup on Friday to see where their cognition is at.

The Aging and Disability Resource Center of Douglas County hosted this memory screen event at the Superior YMCA. It’s a free test that takes about 15 minutes. The goal is to get an overall image of your brain health and see if there is any indication of memory loss. Those who take the test can keep the results for themselves or bring them to a doctor for further testing.

“It’s important because you want to know if there’s ever been a decline. It can be totally situational, it can be from disease, it could be from medications, you know especially if it’s something that decreased very quickly. So, it’s just a good overall picture and idea of where you are at at the top of your prime and maybe if there is an indication of memory loss, you’re going to be able to see that in a follow up test either with us or with your doctor,” said Leah Crist, Dementia Care Specialist for the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Douglas County.

The purpose of this event is to spread brain health awareness. The ADRC does not diagnose anyone.
