EMS Expo takes place at DECC

DULUTH, Minn. — One of the biggest emergency services expos took place last week at the DECC.

The EMS Expo provided an opportunity to equip first responders with practical knowledge of management skills. It also aimed to help first responders deal with trauma that follows some calls.
First responders from around the state attended various seminars, like how to aid people with Alzheimer’s and dementia, narcotics education, and what new equipment is available for other agencies.

“Our trucks are ALS, so we have a full advanced life support ambulance, 24 hours a day across five different locations. Our equipment, we have everything from the Lucas, the monitors, like our trucks are fully equipped to handle the most intense calls that you can imagine,” said Courtney Martin, a service technician at Lake Region EMS.

The expo also aimed to furnish the necessary tools for career advancement. Participants learned different techniques and insights to enhance personal development, patient care, and boost performance of their EMS agencies.

Kendra Jensen, who deals with talent acquisition at Allina Health, had this to say; “We would love to bring people in entry level positions and help them get to their career goal. That’s one of our models, is that if you have a career goal, we would love to help you get there. And so we have people that start in more entry level positions, and then decide that they, you know, want to advance their career to EMTs or paramedics.”

The EMS expo was open for anyone interested in a career in firefighting, law enforcement, or the paramedics field. The expo ran from Wed. Jan. 15, to Sunday, Jan. 19.
