Local Artist Presents ‘From North Shore to Norway’ at Art Dock
DULUTH, Minn.– Under the bright lights, you’re able to immerse yourself in environments that look familiar at first glance.
But up close, with the exhibition “From Norway to the North Shore, you can pick up on the finer details through the series of paintings.
Here you can find scenes of flowers and forests to Oslo and even Canal Park.
“You have cliffs, you have birches, cliffs and birches. And there’s always boats out there, and water also,” said artist Sue Pavlatos.
Sue Pavlatos of Duluth has strong family ties across the pond in Norway. And while visiting, she loves nothing more than to capture her moments on a canvas.
That being said, this passion of hers has been around since she was a kid.
“I always have my pen, pencil and watercolors with. And I just draw as much as I can. Which is nice, because you relate then to whatever you’re drawing. And hopefully, to the viewer, you give them the feeling of what you’re feeling when you see it,” said Pavlatos.
However, there is another message she’s hoping viewers will take away from her exhibit.
“I hope they get a chance to see that we all are kind of the same. We’re different but we’re the same. So you might be from a different country, you’ve help built this country, which is what my grandfather and uncle did,” said Pavlatos. “Oh, it’s wonderful. Anyone would feel wonderful if they got to hang or show their work. Because you really want to relate to the people that are looking at it. You always hope that there’s a relationship there that they enjoy it,” beamed Pavlatos.
The “From Northland to Norway” Exhibit will stay at the Art Dock until May 18th.
In the meantime, Sue will help celebrate the upcoming 40th Anniversary for Dewitt Seitz Marketplace by offering demonstrations, and giveaways.
She is hosting a painting demonstration from 1 to 3 PM, and again from 3 to 5 PM this Saturday at the Art Dock.
There will also be an opportunity to get involved with prize drawings for some of her pieces.
