Future Outlook with New Pope Election

Cardinal Robert F. Prevost, now known as Pope Leo XIV, is making history today as the first elected Pope born in the United States.

Over 133 Cardinals from around the world met at the Vatican for the election process.

“Having a pope from the United States is unique. But he’s also a part of a religious order called the Augustinians and was superior of that order for a long time. He has spent a lot of time in Latin America, and so he brings that experience to the papacy as well, and he was the head of the dicastery for bishops. So, in other words, he was in charge of the dicastery that would select new bishops,” explained Rev. Daniel Felton, Bishop Duluth Diocese.

And with this unique path, it brings up a lot of questions regarding on how the future may look.

“For him to be appointed, the pope today to be selected to be called to be the pope today, is I think a surprise to the whole universe. In a very good way, a very joyful way. But even I will take time to just learn more about him. great gifts and charisms that he will bring to our church and to all people throughout the world,” said Fr. Felton
