Greenwood Cemetary Hosts Memorial Day Remembrance Gathering

Superior, Wis.– On a picture-perfect sunny day, a large crowd gathered today at the Greenwood Cemetary.

They had the opportunity to witness a variety of events to spotlight those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The rifle ceremony, and a variety of guest speakers highlighted the importance of Memorial Day.

I know for all of us, that we may know someone who went off to war and didn’t return home. And yet, as we stand here today in tribute to their sacrifice, it is important and essential that we live up to our part of that bargain,” said Pastor Darrel Kyle, Ch, Lt Col, 148th Fighter Wing.

At this cemetery, 6-7 thousand flags were planted around the property.

“It is our duty to memorialize today, but then, as the pastor told us, to recognize our duty to make that sacrifice worth it tomorrow. They died with the work of this country unfinished,” said Superior Mayor Jim Paine.

The Memorial Day decorations will be staying in the Greenwood Cemetery until June 10th.

But the efforts and sacrifice those who served made will last a lifetime.
