Medical Tents Gearing Up Ahead of Grandma’s Marathon
DULUTH, Minn.– All volunteers for the big race are preparing for everything.
And with the medical tents set up, they are no exception.
Over 250 medical volunteers will participate for Grandma’s Marathon.
Essentia Health is stocked up with cots, wheelchairs, air conditioning, and hydration stations.
The ski patrol from Giant’s Ridge will also be stationed throughout the course to aid runners.
One physician tells us, at the last minute, there are a few things someone can do to prevent race injuries.
“You really want to make sure that you have a good salt balance, so have good amount of carbohydrates and sodium in your system before you get started. Make sure you utilize what you’ve been using in your training as far as you’re running, and if you need to bring that with you, please do. We are very hopeful that the air quality should stay good, but if anyone has any respiratory issues, they should bring any of their necessary inhalers with them,” explained Dr. Kathryn McClellan, Medical Director for Grandma’s Marathon.
One of the biggest risks with running the marathon is experiencing heat stroke.
Despite the weather looking cool, the medical director says the volunteers are always prepared.
