Trump Administration Reverses Duluth Federal Prison Camp Closure
DULUTH, Minn. – The deactivation of the Duluth Federal Prison Camp has been officially reversed, and it will remain open.
After Congressman Pete Stauber pushed to overturn the decision to close the prison camp, the Federal Bureau of Prisons ‘ William Marshall visited the facility, ultimately leading to the Trump administration’s decision to keep the prison camp open.
U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar welcomed the decision, emphasizing the positive impacts for employees, inmates, and the community as a whole.
“This camp has done innovative programming for the inmates, and it would have been disruptive for everyone,” said Klobuchar. “So it’s a really great thing that the director visited the facility, listened to a Democratic senator and a Republican congressman, and made the right decision.”
The decision to keep the prison camp operating means that nearly 90 federal employees will be able to retain their jobs in Duluth, and the facility will continue to provide inmates with impactful rehabilitation and re-entry programs.
