Duluth Firefighters held Mustache Madness competition, Winner Announced!
DULUTH, Minn. — Captain Dan Smith took home the trophy in the DFD’s first Mustache Madness competition.
In the last week of November, the Duluth Fire Department has held a contest for which firefighter had the fan favorite mustache.
Captain Smith narrowly won with 1,497, with less than fifty votes separating him from his second-place crewmate.
It was all to highlight Movember, a movement to highlight men’s health issues by growing out facial hair.
Before the competition, DPD Facebook page featured posts on the firefighters in the competition, as well as the health issues both men and firefighters in particular face.
Firefighters carry an increased risk of cancer, increased rates of PTSD, and other mental and physical health risks.
“Firefighters carry a lot—not just on calls, but in silence. This contest was a reminder to check in, speak up, support each other, and normalize conversations around mental and physical well-being.” read the Facebook post announcing Captain Smith as the winner.
