DULUTH, Minn. – February is American Heart Month and Friday February 6, 2026 is “National Wear Red Day”.

FOX 21 got a chance to talk to Damar Hamlin, the NFL player that collapsed on the football field.  We also talked to Savy King, a professional soccer player that suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while on the pitch, plus American Heart Association CEO Nancy Brown.

They were talking about heart heath and how to react if someone has a cardiac arrest.  Savy said she wants to use her story of surviving a cardiac arrest to tell people to learn CPR. “We’re it’s so public, there’s a lot of events that happen more often than not, that are behind the scenes, and you don’t necessarily see them, but now we know, and we’re trying to bring awareness to the fact that they do happen.”  King continued, “It does matter that you do know CPR, because you can save a life. It saved both of ours, and so that is why we are so passionate about spreading the awareness for it.”

Damar said surviving a cardiac arrest means that everyone is ready to respond and play their own roles.  “It’s just more so about being proactive and making sure the right things are in place.  Making sure that an AED is near.  Making sure that someone knows how to perform CPR.  Making sure that if someone goes down, you tell someone to call 911.  Making sure that you have the reactive steps, but also being proactive as well.  Making sure that if needed, that you can be a superhero.”

We told Damar that he probably had “the most famous cardiac arrest that anyone’s had.”  He laughed at the idea saying, “Check the record books… Yeah, we gotta check the Guinness World Record books on that see, see if I’m a record breaker, a record holder or something.”

Brown told said about heart disease, “It’s the number one killer in this country and around the world, and it’s really important to pay attention to your heart health. There’s a lot you can do to prevent your risk of having a classic heart disease. You know, what you eat, how you exercise, not using tobacco products, getting enough sleep. These are things we can control

All donations to the American Heart Association on-line on are Friday February 6, 2026 tripled.
