An iconic landmark on the Iron Range will soon be a thing of the past this fall.
Mineview in the Sky has been in operation for 36-years attracting tourists and giving locals a view of the surrounding area.
This summer alone more than 20,000 people have visited the attraction with some coming as far as Australia and Japan.
The Mineview will close for good at the end of September to make way for a mine expansion at United Taconite.
“It’s very nostalgic. It’s very sad. I think Highway 53 will stay open during the construction and once this equipment is off the hill and those gates are locked people are really going to notice what a difference this is making on our landscape,” said owner of “Mineview in the Sky, The Shop at the Top” Lori Beth Maki.
The signature trucks at Mineview will be cut into pieces and used as scrap metal.
No permanent location has been decided for new a Mineview.
