Wednesday, the Hermantown community broke ground with their shovels as they celebrated the start of construction at their schools.
The existing high school will become the middle school, and an entirely new high school will be constructed, creating a unified campus.
“For everyone here, this is the focus of our community,” said Hermantown Schoolboard Chairwoman, Deanna Gronseth. “We really wanted to be able to open it up and have the community use it for different activities, because a school building shouldn’t only be used during the school day.”
In 2013, the town passed a $48 million referendum for the project, which is projected to be ready for students in the fall of 2017.
