In honor of Black History Month, Malaak Shabazz, the daughter of human rights activist Malcolm X, paid a visit to Duluth Wednesday.
Shabazz spoke to students at Myers–Wilkins Elementary School which held its first ever black history celebration.
“There is an issue of racism, discrimination, child welfare, however, each place is different,” Shabazz explained. “There is that issue. But what’s happening in France is not happening in Duluth.”
Shabazz works with the United Nations, traveling the world to continue the legacy of her father.
