Superior’s The Strength Factory Makes Working Out ‘Safe and Inclusive’
Kelly Kellar's passion project promotes community and fitness for everyone

SUPERIOR, Wisc. — The gym can be intimidating! The Strength Factory in Superior is trying to change that narrative.
It all started seven years ago as a crowdfunding campaign. Now, the women-owned and operated gym offers classes in kickboxing and weightlifting, focusing on cardio, endurance, and balance. The Strength Factory owner Kelly Kellar has spent years creating an inclusive and safe workout environment for her clients.
“Strength comes in all shapes and sizes, because it really does and it looks different on every person,” Kellar said. “So we emphasize that when you come in here everyone feels at home. You’ll notice too that this gym doesn’t have any mirrors. You don’t need ’em!””
Many of Kellar’s clients have been loyal to The Strength Factory for years and say its the community aspect, not just the workouts, that keep them coming back.
“Your shape, size, color, it doesn’t matter,” Hope, a regular, reiterated. “It’s like, when you’re here, it’s a family. It’s so encouraging. It’s pushing you to your limits — that you didn’t even know you had.”
The Strength Factory has continually grown, moving locations two times to accommodate. Kellar says she is always excited to welcome new clients and has plenty of plans in the works for the future.
