Hitting the Slopes One Last Time for 2023-24 Season at Spirit Mountain
DULUTH, Minn. — With the spring season right around the corner people grabbed their skis and snowboards for one last ride of the year.
The Spirit Mountain annual Spring Happening, or smash event, is and end-of-the-season celebration for skiers and snowboarders.
People could enjoy the events like the rail jam, a costume contest, and a fan favorite, the water skip. For the water skip, skiers and snowboarders race down the hill to gain speed to try and skip across a pool of water, looking to avoid splashing into the water.
Organizers of the event spoke about what the end of the season celebration does for the community, while also looking ahead to the next (hopefully snowier) winter season.
“A cool thing about the community is the joy that really comes. You get to have so much fun and that’s a massive premise of skiing and boarding,” said Spirit Mountain’s Director of Resort Services Jon Regenold. “Spirit Mountain is stepping into it’s 50th season, starting with the 2024-25 season. We’re preparing for that and really looking forward to it. We are currently selling our season passes for next year and really inviting everyone to come on out and have their eyes set forward for even next winter and the fun that we are able to have.”
Spirit Mountain looks forward for opening back up later this year during Thanksgiving for it’s 50th anniversary.
