Bike MS Ride Kicks off Saturday
DULUTH, Minn. — A team of riders is gearing up for an upcoming race for an important cause.
A bike ride fighting against multiple sclerosis will begin at the Proctor High School this Saturday. Bike MS is a 150-mile ride that will conquer the Munger Trail. Eventually, they will finish at White Bear Lake. A suburb in the northeast Twin Cities. A team called the Dragon Butts on the Right has been biking to help combat MS for twelve years. The team has collected around $400,000 over the decade. For this ride alone, they have raised $50,000. For some of the riders, connecting with the people they’ve supported can be quite rewarding.
“The one year that I rode there was a gentleman outside our lunch stop on Sunday, who is sitting in his wheelchair thanking every single person that’s coming in for fundraising. Because the money we raised, helped him.” said Teammate Alina Granholm.
The fundraising doesn’t stop at just the bike race. The Dragon Butts are involved with other donation opportunities as well.
“We raise money throughout the year with different events.” said Tony Wasbotten, the Dragon Butts team captain. “With the cribbage tournament, to pool tournament, bags tournament. We do different fundraising ideas throughout the year.”
Bikers encourage supporters to cheer them on along the trails. They also wanted to remind people to be mindful on the roads for the groups of bikers. With this event, in the words of the Dragon Butts, they’re hoping to “help skunk out” MS.
