Young Boxer Brings Senator to Superior

Senator Janet Bewley visits YMCA, meets local boxer.

In Superior, the YMCA got a special visitor and it was thanks to a special little girl.

Wisconsin Senator Janet Bewley traveled to Superior today to tour the YMCA and to meet Mary Almond, an eight-year-old girl with a passion for boxing.

Senator Bewley first reached out to Almond after reading a newspaper article.

“I just told her how excited I was that she was embarking on something you wouldn’t expect a little girl to be doing, but now that I’ve met her she’s not a little girl she’s a tough young woman,” said Bewley.

Almond along with YMCA instructors taught a youth boxing class on Monday, Senator Bewley even joined in for a lesson of her own.
