MNA Cancels Proposed Strike Against Aspirus St. Luke’s As Tentative Agreement Nears

DULUTH, Minn. – The Minnesota Nurses Association has cancelled their proposed Unfair Labor Practice strike against Aspirus St. Luke’s as a tentative agreement for a new contract nears.
On Thursday, the MNA said “significant movement was made across the bargaining table” following more than 30 hours of negotiations over the past week. Minor details will still be finalized early next week. Based on this progress, the MNA pulled their 10-day strike notice against Aspirus St. Luke’s, which was scheduled to begin July 8.
In a statement, Aspirus St. Luke’s says, “We look forward to working with the MNA early next week to finalize a tentative agreement, subject to ratification by the MNA membership. We are confident that it meets Aspirus’ threefold commitment to our patients, our valued team members and the communities we serve.
This development came hours after the MNA reached tentative agreements with hospitals in the Twin Cities area.
Meanwhile, the MNA still plans to strike against Essentia Health. Members at Duluth and Superior hospitals, 1st Street Clinic, 2nd Street Clinic, 3rd Street Clinic, Superior Clinic, Solvay Hospice House, and Miller Hill Surgery Center will begin their ULP strike on July 8. Those who are Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) at Essentia’s East Market will begin their strike on July 10.
