Knowing Your Neighbor: Small Town Sindrome
DULUTH, MINN- Brian Gandy, John Hakala, and Adam Mahoney are three close friends from Grand Rapids Minnesota. Their passions for music started as young as seven, they have memories to rocking out to the band Kiss with their families and picking up guitars while coming to the realizations they found their callings.
They started off playing songs on Brian’s back porch; after frequent visits from the local Sheriff, they decided to take the stage. They’ve been Small Town Sindrome since 2018. The drummer, Adam Mahoney stated, they played common songs people would know to book shows and that’s how they started. They toured from Seattle, Nashville, and Dallas. ” We’ll play anywhere. Just give us a call.” Says, the lead vocalist, Brian Gandy.
The 90s band, Blink182 is their inspiration. The hit song, “All the small things” was the first song they learned as a band. They also play it at their shows often. The three said it’s never too late to start a band. Vocalist and bass, John Hakala says, “Find like minded people.”
He went on to say, “Get in front of people and then you’ll know where you’re at. What you can expect.” Small Town Sindrome is excited to release their new single in September. They’ll be performing at Wussow’s concert café in West Duluth in October.
