Berg Park Farm gearing up for Thanksgiving with locally raised turkeys
POPLAR, Wis.– For the past 10 years, Berg Park Farm has raised small groups of artisan black turkeys for Thanksgiving.
The turkeys eat, sleep, roam, and are cared for with purpose.
“We spend a lot of time with these guys. We get them as day old or maybe two days old, and so we have them under lights and taking care of them,” said Jeanne Jewel, owner Berg Park Farm.
Jeanne Jewel, the owner of Berg Park Farm told FOX 21 they choose to keep things local. Including the grain they feed the turkeys.
She says, it’s the little details matter most.
I think the heritage breeds that I focus on here are more active and they forage, and that leads to a different texture and nutritional value,” said Jewel, “I actually have a customer that’s driving up from the cities next week to come get their turkey.”
And being able to connect with the community for special family memories, Jewel said, it means the world.
“When people are buying from small farmers like ourselves or others, we’re saying, Hey, this is important to us. We like seeing this in our community, and we want to see it continue,” beamed Jewel.
