UMD Graphic design students painting a mural at Lake Superior Hall

Since 2019, graphic design students at UMD have been making student housing walls more colorful.

And this year’s group includes Greta Feist, Albert Edumndson, Maria Owens, Autumn Gilligan and Maddie Larson, won a contest in class to give them this opportunity.

For five UMD students, graphic design has been their passion.

The semester long project is translating their digital experience, on a physical canvas.

“You don’t get a paint a lot. You’re a lot of the time looking at a screen and graphic design. So being able to, especially during finals week, being able to be in here and just kind of paint and listen to music, it’s a great stress reliever while still being productive,” said Greta Feist a mural designer and UMD senior.

Several of the students helping out with the mural are seniors and they said, they’re excited to leave a legacy behind at Lake Superior Hall.

“I think everyone will be really excited about it just having something fun on the wall when they come in here, even when we’re working on it, people walking by, they’ll come in and say stuff, how excited they are to see it,” said Maria Owens, a mural designer and UMD senior.

The five artists will complete their finishing touches later this week.

For an atmosphere picture perfect for students to hang out.
