Minnesota DVS opens final vehicle inspection location

DULUTH, Minn. — The Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s Driver and Vehicle Services division has opened its eighth vehicle inspection site.

The new facility, located along Carlton St. in Duluth, signals the end of the DVS’s expansion, which began in 2021.

The Duluth location, along with the 7 others scattered around Minnesota, are put in place to help protect the state’s motorists from vehicle fraud.

In order to do that, the new Twin Ports inspectors will work with law enforcement to help make sure vehicles are not stolen or using stolen parts when fixing them.

“This calendar year, we have inspected 23,758 vehicles,” said the DVS’s Vehicle Services Program Director Greg Loper during. “This ensures that Minnesotans who purchase a previously salvaged vehicle can have confidence that they are purchasing a vehicle that was repaired legally.”

During the same calendar year, the stations around the state have also stopped $1.8 million in vehicle fraud in Minnesota.
